1995 SeaDoo Bombardier - water in main engine compartment...

I've owned this machine for about 5 years and have it on a lift where I live on Lake Michigan. Recently, and after a short trip on the lake, I noticed a large amount of water in the main engine compartment under the seat. I completely drained all of the water out of the engine compartment and then launched the craft and looked for a leak. Nothing seen when the engine was running. What I DID discover a little later when I took the machine for a spin was that the leak was coming from the top of the engine through a small port with a red cap on the end (see picture below). I do not know the purpose of this cap but when I took the SeaDoo for a spin, I stopped and was idling and then took the seat cover off to expose the engine compartment area. I noticed that this red cap had popped off and the water was coming out of the tube it was on. Can anyone tell me what I should do now? Replace the cap? What is the purpose of the cap? I could make sure it stays on but have a feeling it's supposed to come off if pressure gets too high? Thanks in advance for any advice.

If you don't know what that cap is, that means that ski has never been flushed out after you ride it..not good man. that's the flush adapter. and if the cap is leaking, you can buy a new T adapter cheap. but, that cap is supposed to almost snap on, or at least stay on tight.the one on my spx did the same thing, so I actually put a hose adapter in there with a quick connect, so I could turn the valve on and off as well

It's hard to tell from the pic, but that LOOKS like the adapter I have in mine, although our skis are a little different..I don't see the rest of the hose coming off the back of that T. can you take another pic and back the camera out a bit so I can see the entire back part of the engine compartment? thanks!
just wanna make sure that is in fact the T I am referring to

Here, take a look at this...this is what the 717 looks like. Notice how the red cap is IN LINE then hose goes to back of ski

That's it man, thanks. I'm glad to know that it is simply a flush point. No, I haven't ever flushed the system and I will from now on at the end of the year but I haven't had any problems since I've only run it in fresh water. The red cap is exactly the same as mine except that mine pops off under power. Do you think I could simply secure it to it's fitting with rescue tape so it doesn't pop off? I see no need to replace it if it's only a flush point cover.

Thanks again for your answers and picture. Solved my issue.

yes, BIG difference between saltwater and freshwater. I'm sure you're alright if youre just running freshwater, but if you suck up any san, etc, I guess its best practice to flush. also, I personally wouldn't use any tape.. for like 2 dollars plus tax, id go to walmart and get a quick connect/disconnect along with one of those hose fittings with an on/off ballvalve for like $2 and connect that. it'll take about 5 min tops, and the $4 for me is WELL WORTH the piece of mind that I'm not filling my hull up with water.

I know its probably not ALOT, but to be honest, if youre going on like an hour or 2 or more adventure without lifting the seat, you'd be surprised how much water COULD end up inside

It would be great if you could describe the quick connect/hose adapter you used. A picture would be great too.

so, you can use this setup, remove that plastic cap, hook this setup up. you can do it one of two ways:
1 use the quick connect, so when you wanna flush, you can just snap your garden hose in
2 use the quick connect WITH the shutoff/ballvalve OR just the shutoff/ballvalve itself.

for me, the quick disconnect would still leak once in a while, so I just used the ballvalve/shutoff bc it guaranteed a closed hose..then id just thread my garden hose on when flushing..

But either way, I got sick of this, and contacted Minnetonka4me and got the CORRECT stock setup for cheap, so you may want to contact him to get the stock original setup, like this:

the first 3 pics are the disconnects/valves you could rig up, but the last pic is the INTENDED flush kit, and Minnetonka4me can get you squared away with one..and im sure that if it is in proper working order, you shouldn't get a leak from the intended flush cap for a VERY long time.

Flush kit.jpgand...for some ODD reason, if you GOOGLE: 1995 Seadoo GTX Flush Kit, THIS comes up, I know ive seen this around so im not sure if this guy is a member here or not.

Remember to start engine first, then turn on water. When done flushing, turn off water first and then stop the engine. Critical it is done this way or you will flood engine with water internally.

SOUL GLO.jpgyea,
I didn't really even look back by your bailers...that hull is a mess. If you're using the oil injection, I hope you're keeping an eye on your oil levels. That is a lot of oil. it's not just residue, there's actually a sheen in there. (Let your "SOUL GLOW!!!!") How's your oil level? and yes, stick your finger on the rubber grommet at the bottom of your oil tank. Let us know if its got a leak.

Thanks very much for that tip. I would not have known. Peace.

Love the "soul glow" reference. One of the funniest scenes in a movie when they all get off the couch and leave their glow behind. :O

I promise to check the gasket, good tip. Oil level is fine but I always top it off. Thanks for the observation and recommendation.

Replace the flush fitting as it has a built in one way valve in it. The red cap does nothing to hold water in. Also look at your drive shaft boot. The part to the rear with 2 clamps on it. It looks like it slid forward. Circled in red.

I got tired of having to keep track of the special hose to attach and also broke two of them. I bought one of the flush adapters that has the hose end on it and cut it off and installed on the stock one I had on my ski. Now I just need to thread on the hose when I want t Flush. Much easier

Great idea. This looks like what they should just come with. Where did you get your white fitting? And does it have a special name so I can google it to buy one?

It is for a pre 93 Seadoo. I just removed the fitting and installed on the stock hose and used a hose clamp to secure it

I use one of the hose y adapters that has shut off valves on it. I have that on the end of my garden hose and thread it on to the fitting. This way I can turn the water on after I start the engine and turn it off before I stop the engine. Keeps me from running back and forth to the water valve at the house
