1995 GTX

Hello guys. So I bought a seadoo 1995 gtx as a project.
I found that the rotary valve was out of timing and it appears as a bolt got stuck and put a few dents in the rotary valve cover (already sent it in and got it resurfaced). It also took a tiny chuck of metal where the rotary valve meets the engine block. To confirm my suspicions I timed the rotary valve correct, put everything back and tried to start it with premix. It starts but dies really really after. I took everything apart and the rotary valve was now out of timing.

Is it safe to assume that the gear in the crankshaft is toast?

If so, should I get my entire engine rebuilt? Compression wasn't great also but was good enough (135 in one 130 in the other).

If so what service is the best?

It's 99% going need a new rotary gear.

The more important concern is how much shrapnel was thrown around when the rotary gear stripped.

Unfortunately you are looking at pulling the engine entirely apart and cleaning everything at the very least and at the very worst you will need a rebuild.

Tear that thing apart and let us know what you see. How much loose metal? Is the crank still spinning happily and freely? Are the pistons and cylinders in good shape?

I have seen people on here who reported when stripping the worm gear that it spread metal to the crank case and the cylinders. So with that said it's incredibly important you do not turn the ski on again until you have at least cleaned it out 100%

The pistons and cylinders look fine and the crank turns by hand. However, it does feel a little harder to turn than my 96 xp. It will light up and try to start if I put some pressure mix in the carb its just the timing goes out of wack fairly quickly. The rotary valve turns when I turn the crank by hand so I think the gear isn't completely shredded but bad enough to when its actually running it goes out of timing.

I have never actually taken apart one of these engines. Is it possible I could take it apart, try to get all the shrapnel out, put in a near gear and be fine? Do I have do anything special one I put it back together?

You might as well pull it apart and get A full gasket kit, I like WSM. You have no other option at this point.
PWC muscle will give a form discount.

At 130 psi your pistons are done. Bore to the next over and install new. Do it once and do it right or spend all summer on the shore wishing you had.

Okay, sounds like it is out of expertise at this point. I live in illinois, is there a certain rebuild service I should use that you guys recommend?

Okay thank you guys. I just sent them an email. Its going cost a good amount but I knew what I was getting myself into with this thing.
