The manual for winterizing with antifreeze the 657 engine describes disconnecting the water inlet, water outlet and drain hoses, clamping the water injection hose and filling the water inlet hose with antifreeze. It then recommends leaving the hoses elevated and the clamp in place. Clymer's manual describes the same procedure but says you can reconnect the hose and remove the clamp letting some fluid drain out but enough will be left to protect the system. Is it safe to reconnect the hoses and remove the hose clamp for the winter so it is ready to go in the spring?

There are a bunch of ways to winterize. Basically, if it's going to be in a place where it freezes... you just want to make sure that the raw water in the engine is either drained, or mixed with anti-freeze.

I normally pull the bottom manifold hose off, and blow the engine out with air. Then pour in some anti-freeze. I don't leave the clamps in place since some people will forget to de-winterize in the spring.

With the boats, you plug off the drain to the transom, and this summer, I had someone bring me a boat with a bad engine... and guess what... the plug was still there. (he ran all summer with the cooling partly plugged off)

Realistically, if you are going to put it in a garage, and it won't be out in the freezing air... you don't even need the anti-freeze.
