I installed an XP 650 exhaust system (it has 2 pieces between manifold and waterbox - muffler and cone) on my 1995 750 Xp. My problem, my 750 had a one-half inch cooling hose connecting the highest part of the exhaust with the lower end of the exhaust right before junction with watercan (muffler and cone are one single piece). The replacement exhause and cone do not have the lower inlet before the water can. Can I simply block off the upper hose outlet? Do I have to drill-out the cone and install a cooling inlet?

You can't block off anything. If you do... the water won't flow.

As far as what to do... I'd have to go look at both systems. But, why not just use the right pipe?

****EDIT****

I was looking over the cooling diagrams... and there was a few versions of the pipes. Basically... you need to pick up a couple manuals, and figure out what cooling system you want to do. On the older pipes... the cooling water came into the pipe first. BUT... on the 720 engines... the water will go into the head first.

The fittings in the pipe have restrictions in them. If they are too big, or too small... you will overheat the engine, or exhaust.

So... unless you replace the pipe, with the OE type... and proper fittings... you will have to do a little "Tuning" on the system. So... on the first few rides... take an IR temp gauge with you, to make sure things are OK.

Thanks for the advice. I'll definetly make sure that the proper water flow is optimal. For now, I ran into other problems. The main electronic box is shot and I have weak fire on the plugs and intermittent current flow to the starter. I tried another full box from a 1995 XP650 and although I have current turning over the motor, there's no fire. And to top things off, the wiring does not match in color on some hook-ups making it difficult to interpret. Now my dilemma is figuring out if I should pursue with buying more parts or just write-off my investment to date.
