Bought a new battery and put in a used doo I bought. No beeps or any signs of life other than the oil light is on. Tried the 5x start button diagnostics and.....nothing. Is this a dess problem, or is this a bad mpem?

Does the 93xp even use a dess code

Any hints much appreciated.

Follow the hot wire from the battery. It will go to the solenoid. You will see two larger lugs. Cross those lugs with a screwdriver and let us know what happens.

Remove your battery, pull the front ebox on the left side (gray color), there is a "tab" that you will need to pull to disengage the ebox that is towards the exhaust side of the box, then squeeze it out where the battery used to be. Open the ebox and check the fuses first. Then reinstall the battery. Be careful you now have exposed electronics. You will see the two large red cables going to the solenoid, take some needle nose pliers and jump the two posts part#14. This set up sux to work on like this but the only way to do it.

Pull the clip forward then pull up on the ebox a little and lift it out of the base. Check for cable ties that are bundling wires before you yank on it. It's like pulling a bowl of sticky spaghetti out of there. TAKE YOUR TIME.

Solenoid, your's will look similar, but you want to bridge the two large lugs

Allright that was fun! Hit the lugs with a screwdriver and the engine turned but wouldnt start. Started a nice little fire down there too lol.

Answer is,,, MAYBE,,,

By jumping the solenoid and it cranks what it tells you is, that you have a good battery, good connections, and a good starter.

Need to do a bit more to confirm a bad solenoid.

There is a wire that goes to the solenoid that comes from the start button (often through a brain box but still fed via the start stop switch). Find the wire at the solenoid and see if it gets 12 volts when you hit the start button.

To see if the ski will run at all, instal the key and jump the solenoid.

You need to find out if the wires that are going to the solenoid (the small yellow/red--assuming that is the color, my pic is a 95 SPX) gets 12V when you have the lanyard on and are pressing the start button. That wire tells the solenoid what to do. Did you check the fuses?
