Picked up a 1993 seadoo xp the other day has a 657x rotax engine in it. Previous owner had dropped a bolt down the carb and scratched up the rotary valve surface. I got it all sanded down and none of the scratches connected the 2 ports. I put a new rotary valve in be it a cheap one took it to the lake and it ran good for a bit then was started crapping out. Took back apart and rotary valve splints had Ben bent. Bought a oem valve put that in and now the engine almost sounds like it's knocking and not running well at all barely idles and backfiring. Any help is appreciated wondering if I did somthing wrong with the rotary valve or if the engine just happened to blow up in the meantime. Thanks! Link to video

The rotary shaft has a brass gear that rides on the iron crankshaft. It’s made to be damaged if the shaft locks up if someone dropped something like a bolt down the intake instead of the crank.
It’s probably damaged so the engine needs to be completely torn down.

When replacing the rotary valve in cheddar the play in the shaft and their wasn't much. The engine wasn't running when the bolt made it's way in their just cranking. It didn't make this noise before this 2nd rotary valve either.
