1993 Sea Doo XP Has Too Much Compression With Plugs In

Ok so I have done some work on my 1993 Sea Doo XP after she sat for 3 years, my problem is when i hit the starter the engine turns over and cranks nicely but only when the spark plugs are out.

If I put one plug in, take the other and touch it to the spark plug hole and crank her - she will turn over and attempt to start. The minute I put both spark plugs in and push to start - well it seems like there is too much compression and she turns over super slow like she has a dead battery - however she has a fine battery and turns over fine without the plugs.

Any ideas or suggestions why there is too much compression when the plugs are in? could there be a blocked exhaust from sitting so long?

I had this same problem today. My XP had been sat in storage for a long time. I tried to get it fired up, but it wouldn't go. After a while it started labouring just like you describe. I took off the rotary valve housing, and found that after a carb rebuild someone had done for me the valve timing was incorrect. It had been turned over many times with the timings wrong so I guessed to much oil may have been pumped in. I disconnected the oil pump and cranked it. This expelled a lot of oil, and when I re-assembled it, it fired up. This may help your problem, I'm not sure. Mine now runs away with the revs up to about 7k on idle!! so i've gone form one problem to another. Hope this helps at all.

You need to post your model and year in your avatar for future problems. Use mine as an example. You might have bad Rotary Valve seals. Over time the oil seeps into the cylinders and causes it to fill the bottom end with oil. It uses the same oil from the oil injector tank. The oil pump is a variable injector pump that pumps oil at a variable rate depending on rpm's of the engine. If you run it all the time it might not be a problem, except fouled spark plugs. If you have a run away problem, it could be either a air leak around the intake area or from revving it on the trailer and the high temp is burning the seeping oil in the engine...choking it should shut it down before it over heats.
