1992 SP won't turn over

Guys,when I tried to crank the engine in my wife's 1992 SP(587 engine,I think)it made 1 metallic sound which was probably the starter trying to engage but would not turn over. Just to make sure my charger was'nt bad, I took the battery to Advance Auto Parts to get it tested and charged overnite. When I put the battery back in,it was still the same thing-would'nt turn over. Can anyone suggest some simple things to look for for someone with limited skills. Thanks in advance. Markero.

take the gray plastic cover off of the rear of the engine, and try to turn the PTO over by hand. It shouldn't take much strength.

got anymore info on the ski and the situation? When did it run last? How long has it been sitting. If you know its not electrical, I would take the spark plugs out and try to turn it over.
