03 speedster 951 runaway idle out of water

Hi all,

i am am trying to run the boat out of water. I know the engine is supposed to idle high around 3000 but this just starts and runs up to 5000+ before I am forced to just shut it off.

checked the idle screw, seems backed off far enough. Any other ideas? Thanks

runaway on the 951 is pretty common. Do you have slack in your throttle cable making sure it's resting on the idle screw?

You can feather the choke it to bring the idle down to where you want it.

You were right, cable didn't look too tight to me but after loosening it, fixed.
