03 gti starting issue

Hi guys I have a 03gti and it just clicks when I try to start it. It will turn over when I pull the plugs but obviously not when they are in. I replaced the solenoid and same result. I bought a new starter but haven’t put it in because it’s in the water and not a fun job when on a lift. Any thoughts? Lose ground? Thank you

It’s your battery or connections. Yes I have see brand new batteries be bad and do exactly what you’re describing.

I forgot to mention I put in a new battery too but yeah I’m thinking connections. Any in specific is should be looking at? Thank you

I would first suspect that new battery.

Then I would try cleaning the connection for the negative and positive cables.

also check your grounds: remove them, clean and inspect, and reinstall.
