On my 03 4 tec.I went out for the first time this year. I was out for about an hour, I slowed down and the red light came on and check engine .I slowed down and brought it in.The ski ran perfect, good power etc. I open up my ski checked the oil, looked for anything(water etc) nothing. I put the key back in started right up.I ran it for about an hour and it never came back on.Anyone have an opinion about this,, Should I do anything..

Press the "SET" button 5 times and see if a code (P-****) comes up on the gauge the next time it happens. Your problem probably has to do with the oil pressure switches. SeaDoo had a problem with them and came out with updated ones. Good Luck, DAWG

As you suggested Dennis I checked for the "p" code. All it said was "end". Does the check engine light have to be on to pull a code? I checked seadoosnipe on his 4 Tec section on codes and it said nothing about that .

Yes, it usually has to be on but not always. It depends on the what the issue is. In the case where the oil pressure switch is causing a problem it has to be on. The original factory switch would give off a false error signal and turn on the engine lite and sometimes put the ski into limp mode. Re-key the ski and it would be OK for a while (maybe days, weeks) and then out of nowwhere happen again. I would ride the ski and try to get a code so you know for sure what your're dealing with.

Dennis again txs for Info.I went over the ski and nothing seems wrong. Stupid question I changed the oil and filter (seadoo-oil and filter) Could that cause anything? I did not look up this switch,is it a DIY , or the dealer?

Pressure switch

Changing your oil had nothing to do with it. The switch is easy to replace. It is located in the front of the engine....up high....in the center....next to the oil filler cap. The switch part no. is 420 256 885 (about $25.00).

Good Luck, DAWG

Dennis I just wanted to touch base with you again. I went out today and the check engine light came on. "p" code was 1202 oil tank pressure switch .is that the switch you thought?

That's the one! I'm glad you got the code. It takes the guess work out of it. Replace it and then go have fun. Keep the "SET" button proceedure in mind anytime a warning lite comes on.

I wasn't happy to see it come back on but i'm glad that's it . I do appreciate your help and I hope to have it back running this weekend i'll keep in touch

Good info.

I'll keep that in mind should that ever happen to me. So far, nothing wrong but thanks for the good info.

It's good to hear that it's fixed! I've been working on these 4TEC's for a few years now and I've got some experience under my belt.
Don't forget,,,,, if the warning lite comes on press the set button 5 times and write down the code.

I have a problem that seems to be very similiar to the one in this discussion. My 03 4 tech runs great for 15 minutes or so, then the check engine light comes on and the ski starts to miss fire. I can stop and shut down engine and restart and ski runs great. After another 15 minutes of riding the same thing happens again. The next time out I will remember the set button 5 touches to attempt to get a code. Any other suggestions.
Thanks
Tim

Tim the code will tell you what the problem is. lETS SEE WHAT IT SAYS FIRST
Hi dennis.
I wanted to help me because I have a consultation with my sea doo RXT 215
2005
when the ignition sound 2 short beeps and one long and fired in the
check engine screen, I get the code p 0520, recently I made
workshop maintenance sea doo and everything is ok, turn on the motor
and displays the check engine warning turn off the engine and disappears
turn on again without removing the key and the engine starts normal.
no check engine warning.
remove the key and wait 15 minutes to put the key back and again the check engine lights.
What is your opinion.
Greetings
Hugo
