Well back to doin the build myself. Sbt is 14 weeks out and the other 2 places are 7 and 9 weeks out. So option 1 complete kit install it myself and machine work done local 900$. Option 2 1300$ core exchange and wait at least 7-9 weeks after they receive my core. Option 3 top end kit machine work done local 550$.
I’d go with the $900 option if it were me.

"My first rebuild" " a 951 DI"
I shuddered a little lol
The 951's are high strung as it is. A DI is worse and more complex.
Don't think you can spare any expense rebuilding it or that you can trust anything.
Do it all or do it 2-3 times. After replacing/rebuilding it, consider the fuel system and air/fuel injectors as faulty and get them cleaned or replaced.
Then look into a fuel pump. Hard to find good quality ones but they do exist. Oem aren't available.
That being said. The full service manual is available and you can read everything you need to know about fully rebuilding it.

Replace the Coubterballance bearings!!
They will seem fine but will absolutely fail!

Invest in a candoo or buds system to diagnose and work on it.

And you better be 100% sure your local shop has a lot of experience with 2-strokes. Most automotive engine machine shops have no clue on 2-strokes.
