You salt water guys - A little guidance please. 2006 GTX Lim.

I have read that many forum members are very reluctant or flat out will not put their skis in saltwater. I have also read many say they do all the time every year.

I am brand new to the Forum and to Jet Skiing in general. Though I am learning fast (Just replaced the original SC with a rebuilt).

Could someone take me through the steps of flushing after salt water use. I have the following specific questions

• I do know how to flush in terms of engine on, water on, water off, engine off and no more then 5-7 mins.
• I have salt away with the reservoir that I will plan to flush the engine with. - For how long do I do so.
• I also plan to use the salt away in the entire engine compartment, does anyone take the seat holder/cover off, do you take the spark plug and injector cover off.
• I read something about flushing the Jet Pump but I have no clue how to do that or if I should do so.
• I have the Seadoo XPS anti corrosive spray and plan on using it, do you remove all of the covers mentioned above before spraying
• Do I need to flush anything else that I am not aware of

- 5-7 minutes is waaaay too long you will cook the carbon seal, 1 minute max.
- I don't use salt away so can't help you there.
- I leave the plastic cover on a rinse the cool engine with low pressure water as required usually every three to four rides depending how much salt residue I see under the seat.
- Spray water into the nozzle area and pump intake area to rinse the impeller and driveshaft.
- I spray the exposed engine parts mainly at the rear of the engine.


I flush with dish soap pour a blob down the flush hose then run the water until no more bubbles come out about 1 min max.

  Flushing more than 1 minute is not needed and can cause damage to the Carbon Seal
• I have salt away with the reservoir that I will plan to flush the engine with. - For how long do I do so.
  I let it run through the reservoir while flushing the engine, so for me, salt away for about a minute.
• I also plan to use the salt away in the entire engine compartment, does anyone take the seat holder/cover off, do you take the spark plug and injector cover off.
  I use a pressure washer on my ski. Using the "SOAP" nozzle, it pulls from the container and uses low pressure. So the soap and salt away is applied at that time. For the engine, I wash it all down like the rest of the ski and then use the pressure washer to rinse it down. I then use CRC and or Fluid Film to coat the engine. I pull the spark plug cover maybe twice a year.
• I read something about flushing the Jet Pump but I have no clue how to do that or if I should do so.
  It flushes when you flush the engine. Some water will come out of the exhaust and some out through the pump.

  I spry the trailer down well and ANYTHING metal I spray with CRC or Fluid Film.

I didn't think of spraying the impellor keeping my skis on floats not easy to acces the rear but im going to do this

dish soap like liquid joy? how does this compare to like salt away I use on my boat?

If you're flushing over water, like a suspended dock, be careful about the products you use. In many areas, using a non-environmentally safe product may cause fish kills. And sometimes, neighbors will report you for doing it. I've got a buddy who lives on a large Bay here in Florida. He was given a $5,000 EPA fine for introducing liquid soap, Salt-A-Way and other contaminates to the waterway. He went to court and only ended up paying $500 in fines for a first time offender. Luckily, he's a lawyer and avoided the actual representation costs. He also found out his next door neighbor, with whom he had been friends with for 15 years, reported him.

hawk my neighbor added a kitchen to his lania, then ran a drain pipe down to and through the seawall and exited under his dock. so ive got ammunition if anything was reported on me lol

I have a freshwater lake within a half mile. I suppose this would be the best way to flush the system, just launch and take it for a ride. Agree?
