Hello fellas (and fell-ettes??)
I'm Brian, Living in the OC in CA. Just picked up a couple of broke down and sun beaten 98 Sea-Doos that I am hoping to get going here shortly. One is a 98 XP Limited with the 947 (951) motor that is siezed and the other is a 98 GSX limited also with same the 947 (951) that was parked when the other broke.
I'll be looking for lots of stuff here in the next few weeks as I begin the tear down process, hoping to find that the XP only needs a top end, but they left the head off and the inside of the cylinders is rusted pretty badly, making dissaembly a major pain. If I find the crank siezed I will probably just drop in a reman motor instead of playing engine rebuilder.
On the short list, I'm looking for seat covers for both, purple hood for the GSX, batteries for both, a topend kit for the XP (or a good running used motor if someone is so inclined), a lanyard for the XP (cant find the original, I know I'll have to get one programmed, but thats putting the cart before the horse isnt it?)
The original owner is a friend of mine, but lost interest when he loaned them out and one came home busted. Theres a lesson for ya! Both have been lightly modded with carb jetting, rev box's, Big purple aftermarket pipes, and K&N flame arrestors.... I am new to the PWCS, but have been wrenching on boats, cars, motorcycles and various other things that go vroom my whole life so I feel I'm up to the challenge.
So.. now if I can just get the cylinder off......
Outside of the obvious for machines left sitting in the sun to rot for 4 years, anything I should know?
