HI There ,

Just wanted to see if anyone has used these carb kits before as I went to my Sea Doo dealers looking for Mikuni kits and no one stocks them and have said to use the Vertex kits which they say they sell tons of them with no complaints.

I am working on a 1994 GTX 657 and I also can not even find where the kits are made, strange.

Thanks , I was always told buy OEM but was thinking of giving these a try.

OEM only for us here in the forum. Buy online shop to home. Scroll down to any carb question on the forum here and you'll see 5 guys preach the OEM only.

The conventional wisdom of the forum pretty much always states..."USE ONLY GENUINE MIKUNI carb parts/kits". I have no personal knowledge of the Vertex kits, but I did use aftermarket SBT carb kits before and THAT was a dismal failure.

Mikuni kits/parts MIGHT be in short supply now, pandemic and all that....but I've bought Mikuni kits online from AMAZON with no issues.

Personally, I wouldn't use anything but genuine Mikuni parts....save yourself the time, trouble and aggravation....but that is IMHO.

If your dealer suggested that they e sold tons of those kits without any complaints, I’d find a new dealer. I’ve never seen an aftermarket carb kit used on these than ran right when it was done.

Sorry 1 last question, my carbs (bn38) has small fuel filters in them and yes they were clogged up unbelievable that gas even got through.
I was told that once I rebuild the carbs to not install those small filters back into the carbs and just use the main filter that sits above the fuel tank.
What do you guys think?
Thanks

No, you absolutely need the internal filters in the carbs. I’d imagine whoever told you that meant not to use an additional inline filter before the carbs. Those can restrict flow, but you need the ones inside the carb itself.

My machine has a fuel filter cartridge that sits above my fuel tank so I was not sure if using that as the only filter would be fine as I was told and have read of the small black filters in the carbs doing damage as they plug up as mine were plugged up.

You need both. If you didn’t have those filters, the crud that plugged them up would have blocked the jets in the carb and made you go lean... Those are like the last line of defense, and are really the most important filters in the whole system.

The internal carb filters are your LAST line of defense against tiny particles getting into the carb passages and causing fuel starvation/performance issues to the engine. DO NOT RUN your machine without the internal carb filters. C'mon think about that logically......IF they weren't needed, would MIKUNI have put them there?

The "fuel" filter in the nose of the ski is actually a fuel/water separator...yes it does act as a filter for fuel but that is not it's primary function...so let the carb filters do their job and don't add any additional fuel filters inline as they can cause fuel starvation issues as well......the stock system was designed for the proper delivery of fuel so stick with it IMHO.

Sounds good guys and BTW I am also replacing all the grey fuel lines as well.

Thanks
Wise choice......the fuel "vent" lines are OK to leave BUT if you're already getting dirty....change them all for peace of mind (25' - 1/4" black auto hose should do it). You should also replace the fuel selector switch....they get old and could air leak....not that expensive to replace.
