I just brought a 1997 sportster of of CL. The guy put 2 brand new carbs. I checked the compression 130 and 135. At full throttle the boat bogs out. So I changed both plugs then it ran great for about an hour and a half. Then it took a very long time to get on plane and when it did the engine just went in and out no steady accelaration. I took it home checked everything again put it back out on the water it takes off stong then immediatley dies down. Help Please. I really dont want to take it too a repair shop. especially since I work on cars for a living. PS all new to me....

More info?..

What did the plugs look like? The brand new carbs...are they jetted right for you motor set up? Are you sure they are sycnronized properly? Are you sure you are not starving the motor for fuel? Filter looks o.k.? If you've been running it with the gas selector valve in the "on" position, try to run it on reserve and see if the fuel valve has anything to do with it.......

The carbs seem to be syncronized I have them properly adjusted according to repair manual. I havent tried with it on reserve yet...

How did it run putting the fuel selector on reserve? Is the fuel vent plugged? Have you checked or cleaned the RAVE valves? What condition do the spark plugs look like?
