Hi All,
I'm very new to pwcs and just found this forum. Thank you in advance for any opinions or advice any of you may have. I have a 1993 sea doo sp ( thought it was an xp but it's a single carb and I was just told it's an sp. When I got it, it had been sitting for about 3 years. The first thing I did was remove all the old gas. Doing this on this model was kind of tough since the opening to the fuel tank is pretty small to try to siphon with anything other than a very small diameter hose. I ended up popping the rubber cap off of the top of the fuel tank, thinking this would be an easier way to get the fuel out. Once I popped the rubber cap off, I saw that there was a plastic sleeve that goes into the tank so I ultimately ended up draining it from the fuel tank inlet with a small hose. Once I got all the old gas out, I filled it up with new gas and installed a new battery. It took some cranking but then it fired up. Seemed to run just fine and would start very easily. I put it in the water and that's when the problem started- it would run great for about one to two minutes then it would seem like it was starving for gas. It would idle just fine but when you give it gas, it would just bog. If you let it idle for a couple minutes, it would run well again for another minute or two and then do the same thing. I've worked on 2 stroke motors before but never a pwc. I did find a manual and read that anytime the fuel system is open, you're supposed to check to make sure it holds fuel pressure and then it says to pump it up to 5 psi before starting. I'm wondering if when I popped the rubber cap off the tank and put it back on, maybe it didn't seal all the way and is leaking air. I did see a few bubbles in the fuel line. It really seems like a fuel issue and not electrical but I'm not quite sure where to start. I'm trying to find a small pump that I can check the fuel pressure with. I'm thinking that since that rubber cap on top of the tank is the only thing I've messed with so far, that could be the problem. If that's not it, I guess I need to check the other obvious things it could be, fuel filter, pump, dirty carb, etc. The previous owner spent a bunch of money having a new motor put in a few years ago which only has about 10 hours on it but, as I mentioned, it has been sitting for about 3 years. If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!
Bob
