Winterizing

I have the FSM for my 1997 XP and GTX's. The instructions are pretty clear, but I do have a few questions.

1 - Why do you have to pinch off the engine drain hose?

2 - For the XP, they have you remove both hoses from the head. Why not just remove one (the inlet) and let the antifreeze flow through system.

3 - Could a guy just install a hose T with cap at the inlet on both machines, pinch off the engine drainhose and fill from there until it runs out the exhaust?

4 - The skiis are up at the cabin, but I want to do it next weekend I go up and have the supplies ready. Are the hoses to the head 1/2" or 5/8"

My local dealer says they just connect a hose and pump to the fitting at the back, start the skiis and run until antifreeze comes out the exhaust. Would this be a better way to do it? It'll get to -40° where they are stored over the winter, so I want to make sure it's done right.

They said if you dont run them, the cylinders can fill with water, but the FSM doesn't have you run it. I assume that is since you are isolating the engine and then doing the exhaust seperate. Would the water flow back through the exhaust ports?

Everyone has their own method of winterizing. So... if you want to give the factory method a tweak... that's fine.

Basically....

1) Stabilize the fuel
2) fog the engine
3) get water out, and antifreeze into the water jackets if it's going to be exposed to freezing weather. If it's in a warm garage... don't worry about that. (or you live where it doesn't freeze)

In -40* temps., it needs to be winterized. Never run water in your seadoo without it running it will back flow into the cylinders and flood the internals. The requires the back pressure to keep the water/ anti-freeze out.
