I am new to the sport and picked up my first machine a month or two ago, a 2001 XPL. Previous owner winterized it October/November 2011 and hasn't used it since. I live in NJ and dont plan to do anything with it until spring. Should I fully winterize it again? Or is there an abbreviated winterizing i should complete? I read that gas stabilizer is good fro two years, although bottle says one year. Has anyone let their gas sit for two years or should i drain the tank and put in fresh gas & stabilizer?

Thanks.

You could prob leave it and drain and replace the gas next year and be fine.

But...it sounds like you want to work on it. If so drain the gas, put like 4 gal of fresh non oxy w/ stabil back in and fire it up. Get the fresh gas and stabil into the carbs. Shut down and let it cool, then fire it up again and refog the motor.

Thanks for the response. I thought I might work on it over the winter but it looks like I need to wait until Spring. I thought that if it was going to be winterized and gas stabilizer added, the gas tank needed to be filled to the top.

Thanks again.
