I'm looking for just the clips that hold the strut on the ball mount. The strut keeps coming off my hood on the RXT and its driving me nuts. I'm sick of buying the whole strut just for the clips!2FBBAF13-D723-4911-B090-24A37D4725D1-9432-000004484A446C02_zpsf7247212.jpg

I really don't know what the piece looks like but have you tried Home Depot or Pepboys... They have those racks with a ton of misc clips and clamps

Yes I have and came up empty. I can't find them anywhere. I have to buy the strut which is somewhere around $45 if I remember right from the stealership.

Possibly an auto body supply shop? They usually have all kinds of funky clips, snaps etc.

That's a great idea. I never thought of that. They are the same clips as the ones used on the struts to hold up any tailgate on a SUV or minivan.

Seadoo has a service bulletin out on repairing that shock or strut that keeps coming off your hood. I have an 09 rxt and mine kept coming off so i tightened all the linkage up on the upper mount and have not had it come off since. I did not relocate the lower mounting bracket either. give it a try it might work for you.

Been there done that AND relocated the lower bracket. It helped but didn't solve the issue. The first time I install a new strut it lasts a while but once it comes off it won't stay one past the first time I hit a wake.

I work at a automobile dealership and that clip looks very much like the one on my Jeep for the strut that holds the hatchback up. If you want to send me the old clip or get some dimensions I'll see if I can find one. PM me if you're interested.

There's a store near me that sells all sorts of automotive clips and fasteners that I'll try on Monday. If I can't find anything there I'll PM you.

I'm also wondering if the strut you have is too long or something, might be overstressing the ball type joint when the lid is closed? Just a thought.

That's a good point. I have a total of 3 struts and all of them did the same thing. All bought from my local dealer. I'll double check the mounting brackets to see if they came loose or if the top one could be misaligned.

Something's wrong KK, you shouldn't be going thru those struts like that! My '06 RXT has it's original hood strut and it works just fine, so what's different about your '08 RXT's hood strut? Have you taken the watercraft to a SeaDoo dealership service center and asked the service manager about it? I would at least go show them what it's doing and ask what they think... that strut isn't supposed to be a "wear item" ya know.

Mine was popping off a lot also...
I relocated the bottom strut bracket and it still popped off... I decide to take the whole assy apart to tighten it up and lubricate it, I found out that someone had it apart before and put it back together backwards!
I reassembled it the right way and tightened everything up and now it's SOLID!

I've been jumping some serious breakers and it's not coming of anymore.

Should be the same strut. My dealer has already replaced one and relocated the lower bracket to the proper location. Mine was mounted offset to the starboard side too far from the factory. It has been better since but I still have issues. Once I get it to pop off I have a hard time getting that same clip to stay one. Seems like it looses tension. Doesn't appear to be made from spring steel. Anyway, I went today at a friend's body shop and he showed me how to "fix" the clips so I'll have to reinstall it and report back.

You mention that your mount was backwards. Which way is it supposed to be? Both my ball mounts face the port side.
