Sorry, a little long but interesting. Well, I've had an extremely frustrating time this summer with my boat. If you're bored, find my posts and read my issues with my 97 Challenger. Here's a reader's digest version of the events. Bought boat in June. Engine blew 2nd time out. Get new engine and carb rebuild kit from SBT. Installed and engine blew ten minutes into break in. Get second engine from SBT. Take carbs to dealer to have them go over them. They added 2 springs and adjusted popoff pressure. Install second engine and carbs. Boat runs ok except for flat spot in mid-range. Get through 20% break in and going through 50%. Boat still has slight mid-range issues. Trying to tune as we do break in. Engine go Boom again! Get towed in for the 4th time in 7 outings. Compression is now 150 on pto and 125 on mag. Boat was running rich and now last time out decided to go lean. WTF? I bought the boat for 5500 and have put close to 2500 in it already and have not even gone through a tank of gas yet. Crazy huh? No one can figure out what is going on with the boat. Obviously a carb issue or maybe something else. So as of right now I refuse to put another dollar into this boat. I looked at an 07 speedster 150 with the 215hp engine for $19,000. Ouch! Great boat and would love to have it but that price tag hurts right now. They just had that boat on sale for 15,999. Salesman says 2500 for my trade but can't get the sale price. Um, ok? I'm debating on calling him saying I want the 15,999 and they take my trade. What would you do? I really don't want this 97 anymore. It makes no sense for me to dump anymore money in it. Great boat but just can't chase this issue any longer. I just missed a summer of boating.

Here is my suggestion. Sell your 97 boat on the market, in the neighborhood of what's invested. Take you retail price and buy a new left over model in Oct. or Nov. at "end of year model price", as they always drop in the fall and winter. That way you'll have a new boat and save a ton of money in the long run. The dealer will make the profit if you trade the old one in, so sell it yourself and make the profit...

man haggle the price, keep the sales guy there for 4 hours and then just leave. he will either stop you on the way out or call you next day. they are just like you and me, it all depends whos the first to crack. sometimes I dont have time to haggle but if you do and your good at it you can get a good deal. I paid that much for my 08 challenger 180 so defintly you can get it cheaper.
