So I know that there was a thread a few weeks ago on Walmart switching there full synthetic oil to a silver container, from the black one. But there was no API-TC or whatever logo on it. Did anyone ever figure it out, is it safe to use in 787's? My 97 XP is about ready to fire up, but I have the oil tank spotless right now and dont want to mix oils. I woulda posted it on my thread but i figured this would be faster...i just like the walmart because you can get it basically anywhere you are, and cheaper than XPS II

i "believe" its the same stuff, just repackaged, but it worries me a tad, however, my local wally worlds were so unrealiable when It came to oil that I started using amsoil.com and buying by the case to avoid the whole "gotta stop at wal mart on the way to the ramp" problem, so personally i'd say just order a case of interceptor (do the $10 trial) and move on. save gas, save hassle, save money.

Welp, called my dealer down the street. They said 38 a gallon for xps synthetic. I went to pick one up, and the little barcode hasn't been updated in a while. They rung me up and said 48 w tax. I was like, your price says 38 so they honore it and immediately ripped off the tag and had to have a manager override the part price. I love screwing the dealer, although I shoulda bought 4 more, cuz I guess I'll be running xps forever now. Also, I thought the full synthetic was in the black bottle, but it is in the yellow?

It was a thread I started, but I have not had a chance to call Quicksilver/Merc to see what they say about whether it is or is not API-TC. I've been working on my engine install and such - no need to put oil in yet.

Easy to tell....
Yellow = Full Synthetic
Black = Semi Synthetic
White = Mineral Oil.

The oil is golden yellow, but we already knew it was full synthetic from the label. The question is low ash (API-TC) or ashless (TC-W3). Old black bottle was full syn low ash. New gray bottle is full syn but does not say API-TC.

Sorry, I was refering to the actual Bombardier brand oil containers.

Yellow = Full Synthetic
Black = Semi Synthetic
White = Mineral Oil.

No worries. Its weird though. Posts on Quicksilver/Merc changing their bottles in recent weeks keep morphing into discussions about BRP oil. If Quicksilver doesn't figure out what type of oil they are selling, I just might have to listen to the good advise on this forum :)

I bought the same oil on ebay for $27 plus free shipping..

I used to be a huge amsoil pimp, but a few years back when I asked some racers they said...amsoil is great but it dissolves piston coatings. Weird I thought...

Well a year later I had to redo my sled motor and used coated pistons. I got a few hundred miles on it before having a base gasket fail. We disassembled it and low and behold...little coating left on the piston.

When I asked those racers what they think is the best almost all of them agreed it was Yamalube. Yamaha has always been ahead of the curve on changes in gas and oil...they had gas treatment out for e-15 a couple years ago and it hasnt been rammed down our throats (yet)

SOOOOO....thats what I run. They dont sell their watercraft (w) oil in gallons, so I use their offroad (S) in gallons.

The other thing I dont like about Interceptor is it has no color. They say it helps keep Raves clean, but I like it to tint the gas. Yami is a bluish color.

Very rarely do you see coated pistons going in seadoos...so it shouldnt matter.

Im glad you got ahold of merc/quicksilver, I have been watching your threads and needing to buy some but was a little worried. Sounds like we are good now that we know it is low ash.

I'll use it, but there is still a little nagging feeling about Merc's comment "ash vs ashless really isn't important any more with changes in additive technology". Now I wish that position was conclusive. I tend to be suspicious of expert opinion after the whole ethanol fiasco.

Unfortunately, proving that ash vs ashless is now irrelevant would require someone running TC-W3 or a API-TC syn blend in a 787 for a couple of years and then tearing their motor down to see what it looks like. In the meantime we will have to make doo with people's preferences on how to make it a moot point (such as; buy BRP, order on the internet, stop using your jet ski, etc, etc :) ).
