Hi Guys.

Sorry if most this info can be found by searching but I am at work and can't spend much time on here.

I am buying a 2002 Seadoo GTX. It looks mint but being just wondering if there is anything to look for?

Having a cooling system I assume I can run it out of water? I may not get a chance to get it in the water before making the deal so I hoping you guys can help me out with what to look for.

Thanks!

Hi, and welcome to the SeaDoo forum.

I might be wrong, but I thought the 2002 GTX was a 2 stroke, direct injection. I don't think the 4 stroke came out until 2003.

Let us know if it's a 2 stroke or 4 stroke, the 2 stroke is 2 cylinders and the 4 stroke is 3 cylinders. You can also check the year its the last two digits on the HIN (hull identification number), right rear of the PWC.

It is definitely a 3 cylinder. It's possibly a 2003. I met with the guys son yesterday and he said it's a 2002 though.

O.K., I guess I was wrong, SeaDoo made the GTX in both a 2 stroke version and 4 stroke version. I'm afraid I don't know that much about the 4 stroke model, but there are lots of guys on this forum that do. I do know that this was the first year for 4 strokes and I've heard that some of the early 4 strokes had probs. with valves, but I have no personal knowledge.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

The 2002 GTX 4tec is a great ski and a great motor. No valve problems until they upped the horsepower in the coming years, this is 155hp model. It is not supercharged so you won't have those issues. You should test ride it for at least 20 minutes. By not riding it, you could have thousands of dollars of hidden damage that even an expert would have trouble finding but will be obvious when in the water. It should idle smoothly and quiet and get up to a speed of 60mph on the speedo. A very reliable boat, probably the best ever built by seadoo as far as endurance and should go to 500 hours if maintained properly. Check the oil level and make sure the oil looks new, check filler cap for signs of milkiness which means water is in the oil(bad). Check underside for condition and impeller through the intake grate.

NO, NO, NO, you can't run it out of water for more than a few seconds. It does have a closed loop internal cooling system for the engine but the exhaust is cooled by the lake water like all other seadoos. If you run it out of water too long, it will trigger sensors and it will not run right.
