what ski would be best in the 96 to 98 year range. so far from what i see my best fit for price vs performance would be a seadoo xp witht he 110 hp rotax
just wondering if i'm headed down the wrong path what would you all suggest

It really depends on what you want if you really want to stick with the (787) in the XP model your choices would be a 96 or 97 model the 98 has the (951) motor which had issues for the first couple of years and the 96 and 97 are two different body styles.

let me start by saying i'm new to this but i've been boating for several years. We decided to ad some ski's to the mix so we had more to do than just tube plus our group is getting larger and not enough room on boat for everyone.
So far on person in the group has bough a TigerShark 770 wich is a pain and expensive to get parts for i don't wanna do the samething he did. So far it looks like i can get a pair of mid 90's xp's on a double trailer for around 5k wich is my limit this summer. I would rather stay with the 800 the 110 hp should do fine for beginners like us. How is the dependability of those two ski's and are there any certain area's i should look at i already plan on doing a compression test before i buy or would you all suggest i look to other ski's

Scooper77515 is the man you need to talk to about older skis he knows alot about them I am sure he will reply soon. if not pm him he will be glad to help out. he can give you alot of info on xp's

The 96,97 xp used the 787, 110 hp engine. It has the widely acclaimed Rave(Rotax Adjustable Variable Exhaust) valve system that delivers a wide variety of valve timing settings that delivers lots of horsepower. This combined with the rotax rotary valve intake and a variable rate oil injector system. This engine is killer. I have a the same engine in my 1997 Challenger, jet boat, and it is a great engine. It delivers clean crisp RPM's' and tons of torque. I believe it is the most reliable, easy to maintain engine seadoo, has ever had prior to the new 4-tec engines that is the most used engine today.

Correct, the spx is the same craft as the 96 XP they just gave it a different name when they introduced the new 97 XP. The 96 or the Spx would be a great choice both reliable easy to fix and lots of power and fun.

Ok here i go more questions. OK i was reading that the xp was unstable are you able to ride 2 up on the xp and by 2 up i mean 220# adult and a 105# almost teenager

Yes the XP would be more unstable with two riders at low speeds and the weight you mention would be pushing it on that particular craft. I would suggest the GSX a one or two rider craft either a 96 or 97 model with the (787) motor same relibilty and performance in the price range you are looking at.

I say if you want stability and don't have much experience, get a 3-seater. Unstable skis are for those that don't like low speeds :reddevil:
