Gonna have to do a top end rebuild on my 98 GTS 720 motor due to PTO side Ring and piston edge damage. The manual says stock bore is 82mm. When I measured the cylinder walls on both, the bad piston wall read approx 81.73mm and the Mag side undamaged piston wall read 81.42mm (used a shops pro digital micrometer).
What size is best for the rebuild kit and do i have kit first and then have the machine shop take care of the bore to the new piston size, or have it bored out fit in the best sized overbore kit that will work?
Since my readings were under original stock 82mm slightly, and the cylinders are almost even and no apparent warpage, I was thinking a 0.5mm over stock kit would be what to go with but am unsure. Everything on the ski is stock, no mods. And then, if so, can I order the rebuild kit before taking the cylinders in to the machine shop?
