So I’m new to sea doos and skis for that matter. Took this ski out for its first run and water was coming out of this part when I was pressing the throttle.
where would you guys suggest I start with diagnosing and fixing the problem?

Nothing on or around that part contains water so no way it is coming from that.

Are you sure it wasn't just slinging water from the hull around?

you’re a genius!! That’s exactly what it was now that you mention that. I didn’t have the plugs in the ski so some water go into the hull while it sat in the water in the trailer and when I throttled it spun it up.
Thanks

The lesson is DON'T forget to put your drain plugs in, BEFORE you put the ski in the water.....we've all done that....[you're lying if you say you've never done that :-P]...GUILTY.

I once chased my son for 20 minutes because I knew I forgot to put the drain plugs in a ski before he took off....when I finally caught him....I HAD put the drain plugs IN ....DOH!

Guilty also.
We launched my wife's 2003 GTI then were relaxing at the beach and I swam by and noticed the drainplugs just dangling with the waves but the ski didn't look low in the water. I pulled the seat and there was only about 1" of water in the hull. Turns out that the later models like our 03' GTI have a check ball built into the drainplug housing that will close off even if you leave the plugs out.

It's definitely approaching the definition of insanity how many times I've done this

I haven’t..
Yep you heard it first here.
I go through my ritual at every launch.
Park, wait, put life jacket on handle bars, grab lake bag with keys, wallet, ski registration, waterproof phone bag, cigarettes [emoji377], etc..
Remove jet ski ratchet straps. Put drain plug or plugs in depending on your model, crank ski for 10-15 seconds, check, double check everything every time. Don’t forget Sta-bil ( Blue-Marine) in the gas tank for 2 stroke engines. One ounce for every 10 gallons of gas [emoji618]️.
Ethanol sucks [emoji1304]

I was just out this last Saturday and it amazes me how people go to the trouble of towing their shit to the lake and hold up the launch pad, only to find out that their ski won’t crank!! [emoji849]

Test your ski at home before towing it out to the lake.

In the driveway every time. Sometimes I do it just because the neighborhood is too quiet
