Hello,

I havea 1998 seadoo challenger 1800. I like to replace the wear rings out for the up and coming season. I am pretty sure i can do this myself. Is there a detail diagram any where in the forums that shows how to do this? I am going to start the job in Jan. What are the tools that are needed?

thanks

dont know of any links , but could download a manual here
tools needed, impeller tool, vice, die gringer or sawzall, press or a hammer
start by removing the pump nozzle/turn nozzle as a assembly
next remove the nuts that secure pump assy to hull
might be some hose on the inside of hull that need to be free'd up
now remove the pump assy, newer units they just pull out, older ones require some prying, not sure on your boat
take note as you go for placment of o-rings and hoses this is important!
pump in hand, remove the nose cone at the back and drain the oil
do this outside or the wife/girlfriend will BI**H, cause this stuff stinks!!
next chock the end of the impeller shaft into a vise, this is the end were the nose cone came off and you will see two flat spots on the shaft.
take the impeller tool and unscrew the prop, counter clockwise.
at this point i would remove the impeller shaft and cover the holes were the shaft lived with duct tape,
next its time to remove the ring
look to see if yours have any screws that help hold ring in place, if so remove them, you will have to install later
i use a die grinder to cut a groove in the wear ring to release it, some people use a sawzall, but either way just cut deep enough to go thru wear ring, not the pump!! if you nick it a bit no big deal
remove old wear ring and clean it up good, install new wear ring by getting it started straight and i use a press to drive it home, or a 2x4 and a hammer will do, but drive it straight!!
if any retaining screws were removed, install now but ya got to drill them a little pilot hole, but dont drill too deep!! DONT GO THRU THE RING
now remove the duct tape and make sure the area were shaft lives is clean
install shaft making sure the the bearing and washer are seated proper at the end of the shaft, this can get you into troulbe, i'l tell in a sec
with shaft in pump, put a little blue loc tite onto impeller threads
and screw it back onto the shaft, this is were you got to be carefull with that washer and bearing plate, keep the shaft pushed into the pump as you tighten, cause the bearing can ride off center of a shoulder on the shaft and get damaged, look at this before you install to get a idea
tighten the impeller good, not sure off tourqe specs, my elbow is calibrated just fine
make sure prop spins fine
prop in, now replace your nose cone make sure o ring is good and i use a little sealer here as a back up, not to much or it will jam o ring up
cone on, now fill with oil and spin prop to help draw the oil to front of pump
set at the proper level, just below that fill hole, and install fill cap. sealer here too, i use teflon pipe dope
reinstall pump to hull using sealer were needed and make sure all o rings are in place and hose hooked back up
install pump nozzle assy using a bit of sealer around the perimiter and make sure those two little o rings at the top are in place and not gooed with sealer.
attach control cable and doulbe check all your work
and woo laa your done
good luck
