While I was checking my 1992 xp, I pulled the front fuse box off and water came pouring out of it. I opened the lid and there was nasty brown water inside and all of the fuses, wires and connections were wet and corroded. Guy I bought it from said its been sitting for a year. Does the 92 have an mpem? Do I need to get a brand new box and wires or should I just dry out what i have and replace fuses? not sure of exactly of all the components that are in there and what may have happened (other than shorting things out) any help is appreciated. thanks

There will be a lot of sealed components in there.....some cannot be serviced at all, even though water can penetrate the sealant.

But you can attempt to save the box. Disconnect the larger wires (usually relay, solenoid, and coil to spark plugs). Clean and brush with brass bristle brush to make good connections. Take the fuses out and dry out everything.

I had a flooded out 96 GSX that was pretty darn dead. But after cleaning out the box, drying it and reconnecting everything it actually made a full recovery.

So give it a shot - take pictures before hand in case you get confused about which wires go back where. Post them up so we can assess the damage.
