Water in bilge

This is probably going to sound like such a dumb question but is it normal to have the bilge get water in it when the boat is just docked and not running? On days I don't run the boat I look into the bilge and see that it has filled with what looks like a couple gallons of water. Enough to get about 3/4 of the way up the bilge pump. I'm worried I have a leak. I have read that it's normal to get water in the bilge, or is that only when the boat is running?

Its normal. These boats are meant to leak a small amount of water through the carbon seal. Thats is why they arent meant to be left in water docked. You have to be careful, on most models, the bilge pump does not have power with the battery switch off. I rewired mine to prevent finding water in the engine compartment for the occassioanl time i leave it docked overnight.

Well with our boat, water was sucking up through jet, through the drain hose that drains water while the boat is running. We fixed that by repositioning the line. Some water is going to be there but in our situation, the boat was bilging every 15 mins.

You guys think it will be ok to leave my bilge pump on over night? Or will it kill the battery? It only runs, as you guys are aware im sure, when the water gets to a cetain level...
