Ware Ring

I'd think your wear ring would be the least of your worries if your clip & carbon ring were installed wrong. I could be wrong, but I believe that clip prevents everything from being pushed back. if your shaft is being pushed back, water would come in the hull and your impeller would eat the stator / pump housing, along with the wear ring...

No, it isn't. The impeller ist threaded to the pump shaft and can't touch the wear ring unless you have a pump bearing go out.

just thinking- what about if the shaft is lose from the pto because it slipped back? wouldn't that allow the impeller, attached to the shaft to become a skew (couldn't think of a better word) in the pump, which would cause it to hit the wear ring? I'm just trying to understand it myself ;)

No, the pump has a solid shaft that the impeller threads on so the impeller is attached to the pump and locked into position.

The driveshaft is splined and fits into the impeller. So there is no way the driveshaft can move the impeller into the wearring.

thats right- forgot about the prop shaft. I'm losing my mind, I literally just disassembled my pump 3 days ago. lol so the only way the impeller would hit the wear ring, is indeed if the impeller shaft bearings are trashed.

I've had faulty carbon ring, clip etc. replaced a few times and this last time that I almost sank they confirmed there was a bad carbon ring and clip which is where water was coming in from but they were saying I must have sucked something up as well because the ware ring was in pieces in the impeller.

That is possible.
Although the wera ring and carbon ring failing are probably unrelated.

If you are going through carbon rings I would ask them to check your engine alignment. They should not be going out.

The billet where the drive goes into engine was also replaced previously because it was torn and lost oil do to it so I believe they had to realign last time, this is partially why I was thinking it could have something to do with it. Dealer sent me picture showing the ware ring shredded in my impeller but my impeller is not bent nor are their any nicks, etc. on it nor was any other hard debris like sticks, etc. that could have caused it so I don't think it was from me sucking something up like they are suggesting.

you could have easily sucked up a stick or rock and spit it back out- how are you certain you didn't?
the only way to mess up a wear ring, is by sucking something up.

If I sucked up a stick or a rock I would expect to find it and if it did get spit out why do I not have typical nicks or bent prop. When it was opened up the only thing in the pump was the ware ring pieces.

just because you suck something up, doesn't mean you'll find it. the stainless prop can beat a piece of wood into pulp and shoot it out the back- the impeller will look no worse but the Delrin wear ring will take a beating. the wear ring is made to take the beating so the impeller won't. as long as it fits through the stator vanes, it'll pass through.
