Hey guys, I am wanting to get a Seadoo boat, I have had seadoos before, but sold them..my little boy is almost 2 and me and wife have been wanting to get back to lake, I want something that is dependable and fast and fun, I thought about a newer 4 stroke but not sure id like some ideas. Also woukd prefer one motor just cause less of a headace

What advice are you looking for? The first thing to do is decide how much you wanna spend.

Have an amount you want to spend on boat and go see what's out there in your range. Most 4-Stokes are above the 10K range just because they are not that old and the engines cost 4 times as much as 2-stokes. There are so many out there to choose from just from Seadoo. You can get just a crusing model or a wake board model the list goes on and on with the newer you go.

They all have their issues. The Non-supercharged 4-stokes models have less issue and upkeep. The easy way is if you are not that handy or want to work on your boat go to a non-supercharged 4-stoke. If you don't mind working on them opt for the 2-stoke. Remeber the 4-stokes need to go to the dealer more since it is more computer controlled just like your cars and only 1 company so far makes an aftermarket tool to read MPEMs for like $400. Still unless you get the tools to change the oil and that on a 4-stoke you will take it once a year for the oil change. Get the pricing on the deal for the upkeep and use that to compare.

If money didn't limit my options, I would buy a new 21 foot boat. Just like buying a new car, the new model will be covered under warranty and its actually easier to finance. If i was trying to stay more reasonable, i would look at a used 4 stroke. figure out how many people you intend to boat with. for a small family of 4 or more, a 15 foot boat would be fine. Anything more than 4 and you need 18 foot or bigger. The supercharged models tend to require more maintenance, but they go faster. IT all really depends on what your needs are. You will find a hard time getting a loan on an older 2 stroke boat.

Yeah I have had about 5 dif 2 stroke skis and have worked on them and rebuilt the top ends on a few and carbs, I just didn't know if the 4 strokes were more maintenance

i wouldn't say more, but the ramifications of not doing maintenance are more severe when you step up to the pay window.

if you can afford it, 4 stroke is the way to go, your call on financing, if I was going to go as far as financing a toy, i'd probably do one with a warranty. But i'm not big on financing toys.
