My 2006 RXP VTS is acting up. Went rideing saturday, it worked fine for an half hour then stopped. I took a break and opened under the seat for 30 min. Went for another ride and it worked again. Afterwards I went home and cracked the case and found this mess. I cleaned up some of it afterwards and sprayed WD-40. I also noted the wires were on the lower side and had a small puddle of water, I moved them up toward the top of the motor-AND the inside of my ski is dry. So where is water coming thru the VTS rod control arm? I re attached the cover after cleaning and seating the gasket good. It works fine after. I tested it 10 or so times.

Actaully I think I figured it out. A simple $6 part is all I need. The rubber boot on the rod comiing out of the hull is deteriated and needs to be replaced. Thats the only place I can think water is coming in.

yup... the boot is your issue. If the gasket on the nut was bad, the water would come into the hull. Since the water is inside... it's the boot, and clamps.

It's a common issue.

So after cleaning up my VTS and moving the wires I moved on to replacing the rubber boot on the rod in the rear. The boot was totally shreded and that was what was letting in water. $6.24 later and about a 5min install and its finished.
