Vinyl Trim

Hello forum members,

I am in the process of restoring a 1999 Challenger 1800 and I want to replace the white vinyl trim that goes around the two center consoles. It has gotten stiff, keeps pulling apart and it is impossible to bond anymore.

Of course it doesn't have to be an exact replacement but any suggestions were to buy material like this online.

Thanks,
Chris

Are you talking about the trim that fills the space around the console, kinda looks like threshold trim? If this is what your talking about I would go to a home improvement store lowes/home depot and see if u can match it up.

It does go around the console, white, slightly curved extrusion that covers a hull seam.

BTW, I checked and this part comes up as still being available through the Seadoo parts distributors and it is not really that expensive (about $20 for both pieces). My only concern is that I found that when I place an order for this type of parts it turns out that they really don't have them. But I'll try.

Thanks.

It is still available, I just bought the 2 pieces and i'm trying to install them right now. Seadoo recommends loctite 414 as the adhesive which is what i'm using. Not sure if i'm doing it wrong but the trim isn't sticking. I had to heat up the trim alittle just to bend it into the shape of the boat. Any suggestions

Benny, for some reason it doesn't sound to me that Loctite 414 would be appropriate. This is an instant adhesive and it just doesn't seem right to me for this application. But honestly I haven't tried it.

The parts manual I have for the Challenger calls for Adchem Adseal 4511. You can't find much about it in the net but I went to Adchem website and looked for the MSDS. They don't even list the Adseal 4511 but all the 45XX products are called Adseal and they are silicone sealants.

So I think I would get a good adhesive sealant that is compatible with vinyl, prep the surface really well, and use lots of tape to hold the trim in place until the sealant fully cures.

When I do mine I will share my experience.

Finished installing the trim last night, what a difference. So here's what I ended up doing. Scaped off all remains of the old glue, used a 400 grit sand paper to make sure it was a nice smooth mounting surface. Then wiped it down with rubbing alcohol to clean it. When I was trying to use the Loctite 414 earlier it was too cold out which is why it didn't bond. So I used a heat gun to warm up the trim (which is neccesary to make it plyable). Then reapplied the adhesive and this time it bonded in a few seconds. All the parts catalogs i've looked at recommend the 414 and in the right temperature it is some impressive stuff. The trim part number your looking for is #204050048 and is called Moulure Blanche*Trim Whi. Online i've seen it being sold by worldofpowersports.com, or just call any seadoo boat dealer. Good luck with yours
