98 gsx limited. What upgrades are available to improve performance? I have searched but since its an older ski after market doesn't seem to have anything.

what kind of performance are you trying to reach? better handling? better out of the hole performance? better top speed?

have you thought about an intake grate? some are designed to help with rough riding and others are designed for top speed..

an upgraded impeller repitch will help some.. and possibly an aftermarket flame arrestor..(although i dont hear they improve anything dramatically)

if your looking for handling then look into sponsons for your machine.. not sure if they make aftermarket performance ones for that ski but its worth a shot to look..

looking to smooth out the bumps and increase handling. Also looking to upgrade the handle bars.

i would look into an intake grate and possibly a set of sponsons.. theres not really much more you can do to keep the hull in the water.

IMO the GSX doesn't porpoise much,,, its a pretty good hull... not sure a grate would help that much, but i've never owned one long enough to think about a grate, they've always run very smooth, even in light chop.

handlebars ? UMI is available, but might come at a steep price (over $300)and IMO its not a dramatic performance improvement for the average rider, but aesthetically they are very pleasing.

handling... I've always felt the stock sponson's did a nice job, but ya, it still slides more than cuts i guess, so a set of beach house would be a consideration... just be careful, much easier to get tossed with AM sponson's, so i recommend getting used to them slowly, and don't try any hard turns in the 50's.. you'll go flying :) I honestly don't recall seeing AM sponsons on a GSX but I really don't see many 98/99's out there, and when I do, they've all been stockers.

personally, if I was looking to "mod up" a 98/99 GSXL, i'd go solas impeller first,,,, improved holeshot, more "umph" coming out of turns. and see if you like what that does before going deeper into mods. I can't really recommend a pitch but somebody should chime in with their .02 on that subject.

if you not happy after that.. then proceed.

Just thought I'd post for info purposes for the OP. Still some aftermarket out there, just gotta find it.

Also google Ben's secret mods for the 951/1050 for some good ideas.

I personally went with a group K milled head with the cooling mod, R&D power plenum F/A, Bill O'Neal's jet kit, 97.5 GSXL white pipe, and Solas 15/20 Concord prop (get a new wear ring!). Gotta use 91 or better octane, but those mods will put you at RXX levels. I still use my stock grate and sponsons, but that's just me.

I have the same ski, bought last Nov.
The PO installed a Solas prop (I think a 15/20). It tops out at 62 MPH. (Spim & his shoulder can verify)
Everything else is stock.
