Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about a updated drive shaft by seadoo as I was looking for a bit of help on a wear ring seal someone mentioned to me to get the updated shaft, now 1 person I spoke too ( 25 year master mechanic of seadoo) says they haven't heard of such a thing . But I do know seadoo made slight changes in 09 2010 4tecs to the shafts which can be found on page 593 of this manual 09 -10 SEA DOO PWC SUPPLIMENT.
If there is such a thing does anyone know what seadoo has done to updated it?

I wonder if this has something to do with the possibility of impeller coming unthreaded on the pump shaft and pushing the drive shaft forward into the engine and destroying the engine bearings (and block, crank, etc....)

It might be important.

I'm not sure Sportster, I do know the 09 -10 SEA DOO PWC SUPPLIMENT has made for a fair bit of confusion during my quest to help on issues. seems not many have noticed that change in assembly, cause when I have asked in the past nearly all responders kept showing me the diagram of the prior assemblies before ad after the 09 -10 SEA DOO PWC SUPPLIMENT. I'm no expert by all means but from what I gather this supplement issue is where they came up with the 2 piece drive shafts?, I could be wrong by a long shot but it looks like after the supplement ended BRP went back to the prior shaft assembly that was used in 08's to 13's.
I've sent seadoo Australia a email asking for a bit of info regarding this and as per usual it's a waiting game for a response. As I'm sure there would be some sort of bulletin or news Article from Sea Doo that would shed a bit of light on it. I don't think there was a whole lot of major changes within the 09 and 10 but in my case it would be helpful as to get as much info on it as I can.

I had my 2010 GTX in the shop before the start of the season. The guy told me that I needed to think about changing out the drive shaft, impeller, and bearings. He said there is a problem with the splines "wearing down". I asked if this would cause a catastrophic failure if left unattended. His reply was no. As the problem gets worse, you will hit the throttle and the engine will rev but the ski goes no where because the connection between the shaft and the prop is essentially stripped.

I plan to change mine out this winter. If memory serves, the parts are around $400, but I would need to confirm that.

I am almost certain that I read about the shaft being updated. Which would make sense due to the amount of the splines that wiped out...

I just don't recall where I read it.

That sounds about right Jaybeaux , the 10 GTXs I believe was included in the supplement production,
Any reason you couldn't use the the current impeller? That's pretty much what happened to me as the seal clamp broke ( all throttle and no go). Where abouts did you get the $400 price from? And is that drive shaft still 2 piece or is it a case of breaking down the whole motor to put a single shaft in?
As for the impeller, if needing to be replaced, is there any better ones recommended? ( ie longer life span or what not).

Let me try to find the parts list the dealer gave me. Again, the $400 was from memory....maybe a better number is on the parts list.

is that drive shaft sill a 2 piece or has seadoo made it 1 piece now?@Jaybeaux .... and here in aussie land you could pretty much double that finial price..

no worries Jay,,,, I'm just looking at this manual I have which includes the supplement thing on the 09 and 10s, its showing this. Untitled.jpg so ....with it being a quality improvement, It makes one wonder why brp only did this for 2 years., with that said ....the research continues.

just for the future, it's been brought to my attention the so called updated shaft is stainless steel where as the current one I have is carbon steel rubber moulded and had cause major malfunctions basically as sportster has said, destroyed impellers, motors and so on. with that said this ( tell all why) the shafts were updated didn't come out in the shop manuals until 2011.
