Hi all. I am new here and also new to PWC. I am located in Rochester, NY and just finished taking the required safety course with my wife. We are about to buy two GTR 215's but I have a trailer question that I am a bit curious about.
I already own a Karavan double PWC trailer and am in the middle of completely restoring it. New paint, new leaf springs, lights etc... I notice the bunks on this trailer are 5 feet long and also need to be replaced. My question to you all is should I replace with new 5 foot 2x4's? The 215's are around 139" and that seems long for the existing boards. I believe this trailer must have at one time been set up for older PWC? I could use all the advice I can get. If any of you own the GTR215's I would be interested in knowing what size bunks you are using and how well it works for you.
Thank you in advance for the help.

That trailer may be too small for 2 new ski's. Two old ski's weigh about as much as one modern ski. And they were significantly smaller. So... it's kind of hard to give you advice from where I'm sitting.

So... before you put all that time and effort into it... look at the gross weight. A typical modern ski... with fuel, oil, coolant, and some gear is easily 1000 to 1100 lbs. So... add that to a trailer weight of 300 Lbs... and you need a gross of around 2500 Lbs.

I already beefed up the axle and added a new set of heavy duty leafs to replace the stack of three that it had. I am now using a stack of four that are heavy duty. Tires are new and rated for 1250# per tire. The weight is not an issue I just need to know what bunk sizes are best. It looks like I have tons of room for how long they are based on the travel of my winches on the slides.

The Shorelan'r trailers have a 72" bunk on the single place trailer and 84" bunks on the double trailers. I have a similar ski to yours on the 84" bunk and I would say that anywhere between the 72" and 84" would be just fine.
