Towing tandem behind empty double trailer?

I'm looking at a double trailer on CL for 550, which has a ball and wiring for towing a second trailer in tandem. in order to move my ski from the single trailer it is on, the easiest way would be to tow both to the lake, drop the ski in, then put it on the double trailer. I'm wondering if this is a bad idea or not. I'm thinking since its a steel double trailer and the single is a steel trailer with the xp on it, that it would "probably" be ok, but my spidey sense is tingling that it could get really hairy really quickly.

What say you?

how far is it to the ramp? Steep grades, lots of traffic?

So on the way back home you would have the tandem (with the XP) then the empty single behind that. What weight can your vehicle tow?

tow vehicle is a 2010 xterra, so i can easily tow the weight, but what i'm worried about is the second trailer being heavier, and "wagging the dog" of the double. there aren't any steep grades on the way to the ramp, but there is likely to be some traffic in Houston, and its about a 45 minute drive to any ramp around here.

this is for your 97 xp ?

here's your answer,, buy a 6 pack of beer, get a buddy with a strong back (2 if your popular)
back the trailers up to each other and slide it from one to the other.
(anchor both trailers so they don't move while doing this,,, 1 can be attached to the truck,,, tie the other one to a tree or something if you can't ghetto another option.

this will take about 2 minutes with 2 or three guys, and if they don't stick around, you'll still have 4 beers in the frig for later

after i replaced the carpet on the bunks, i ended up hooking the double to the truck, and backing the single up against the double and hooking the winch to the ski to pull it onto the double trailer. once it was almost all the way on, i picked up the back end (lighter end) and swung it around to the rear, so the ski is facing the right way now. all in all it took 30 minutes or so including airing up a low tire... not as tough as i thought it would be.
