Towing Ski

Hey Guys, Just a random question here that one of you may know. Sea Doo recommend not towing ski without engine running as water can backfill the exhaust. Whats the difference between this and just simply having the ski floating in water with the engine off? Wouldn't it fill with water as well? Just curious. Cheers!

No. If you pull a ski and the engine is not running it forces water into the exhaust and then on top of the engine. Buy a ouch clamp and punch the hose that runs from the pump. This will eliminate the issue.

I have a Sea Doo GTI-130 2015 Model. Do you know where the inlet is for the exhaust water cooling? I thought it was at the back of the ski where the jet pump is I see some feed off lines that may suck in water. I'm quite a technically minded person and wonder how water can get in when towing, if the exhaust intake is at rear of ski how can water pressure build up at the rear? I would of thought that if you are towing the pressure would be most at the front and less towards the rear? And if you are simply just stationary on the water with the engine off then what is stopping water from getting in? Sorry for the questions I'm just curious and wondering how it all works! Thanks for the reply already though! Cheers!

When you tow it, it creates a hydrolic effect in the impeller tunnel. The water fairly easily fills the exhaust manifold up and then sits on top of the engine. When the ski is sitting, the air in the exhaust manifold is strong enough to prevent water from entering the exhaust. Much like if you hold your finger on a straw and lower it into a glass of water.

I keep one of these in my glove compartment and one in the parts bag.

on my buddies xp we shoved a spark plug in the hose and zip tied it (didn't have a clamp handy)
worked perfect !

Hey, I'm a new owner last year and still working my way around the engine. I'm not quite sure what hose you would put the clamp on. Would you be able to describe a little more which one it is? The hose running from the pump?
