I just purchased my first sea doo. A 2009 GTI. I need a top ten worst things people do list. I want to avoid them when spring comes. From looking over a lot of the posts I have come up with three.
1. Don't jump start them.
2. Don't tow them over 5 MPH.
3. Don't run them in shallow water. How shallow?
How about seven more.

don't forget to change the pump oil before you run it. It's been run for 4 yrs now, who knows if the PO changed it.

4. Don't forget to grease the PTO bearing a few times a year depending on how much you ride.
5.Don't beach it, especially if rocks are present. Walk it in OR anchor off shore a bit.
6. don't forget the rules of the waterways and be considerate to other boaters/swimmers.

In my opinion the top worst is people don't read their manuals and do the regular maintenance. Many of the problems on this forum are from skis that were purchased and not maintained properly by the previous owner.

Read the manual and stick to the maintenance schedule like religion, this is your best preventative maintenance and will keep you out of most trouble. Because the ski is new to you, I would do a full round of maintenance/inspections as per the manual at minimum before I hit the water.

You did the right thing by coming to the forum, there is an abundance of knowledge here.

Don't let non-riding friends/relatives drive your ski.

Don't leave your ski in salt water for long periods of time w/o flushing/spray lube.

Don't tie off to docks and floaters that aren't pwc friendly.

Don't over fill with oil.

Don't forget to secure the ski when trailering.

Don't forget to inspect the o-rings on the drain plugs.

Don't run the ski on the hose w/o knowing the correct water hose/eng on-off sequence.

Don't run the ski for an hr with the eng temp alarm going off.

Don't beleive everything your dealership tells you.

.....I wouldn't run a ski in less than 3' of water.

Dont forget to install drain plugs.

Dont lone it to your buddy (as per red2blue).

Dont get rid of that old can of gas thats been sitting in your garage by pouring it into your ski.

Dont flush it without the engine running.

Dont ignore a warning alarm .... it is trying to save you money!
