Took the boat out but...

So after getting new impellers installed I took it out hoping with new wear rings and new impellers it would have a better hole shot and maybe better response. In all honesty there really is no change. It still cavitates a little out of the hole still and seems to have a little hesitation in general. What else can I do to eliminate the caviation??? CARBS?? I replaced the plugs and had the boat serviced the end of last year....

Personally,

I'd rebuild the carbs, check the seal carrier setup and then remove the ride shoes and then use an excessive amount ( at least 1 large can or RTV sealant per shoe) to reseal the ride shoe and install it..

Carbs won't do anything for cavataion. If the engine revs up... then they're doing their job.

I would second the idea of the ride shoes. Most of them leak a little after a few years. (could be a source of air) and, as above... check your carbon seals. If it's been a few years... changing them should help.

I know everyone recommends changing the ring and the impeller at the first sign of cavatation... but in reality, they can be pretty messed up before causing a problem.

I have a brand new engine, new wear ring, and new impeller, and mine cavitates if I get on it too hard, but only sometimes.

I am pretty sure the boot that holds the pressure against the carbon seal is losing it's springiness and letting air bleed into the pump area from the engine bay.

I am going to live with it. It only happens periodically, and I don't want to take it all apart again, for while. Maybe I will replace it at the next wear ring replacement.

It still pulls me up on a wakeboard, so I am not concerned with it.

Yeah the mech said something about the ride shoes but I thought the guy was trying to milk me for more money but he said they were still in decent shape, but I will probably replace them at the end of this season the boat rides great but I am just very picky about my boat.....thanks for all the help hope everyone is out enjoying the water.

If you want to do a quick seal-up to check things out... pull off your pump, and just put a big fat bead of silicone around the shoe. (sealing it to the hull) You want to seal the shoe to the hull in the tunnel. You can do it from the intake grate... but lying on your back, reaching around the drive shaft is a pain in the butt. Pulling a few bolts to slide the pump out is easy, and gives you full access to the shoe.

Oh... and don't forget a new neoprene seal that goes between the pump and the shoe.

I am going to have to be honest with you the short amount of time I do actually get to use my boat when I am not with the family in all reality these days with an 8/mo old at home is few and far between, I will get my mech to take a look at it I used to have time to wrench but with; my little one, the wife, the skis and the boat, uggg kill me never anytime it seems like. Thanks for the tips Honda, enjoy that SJ.....
