Hey Guys! I'm new to the sport and new to the forum. I just bought a 1996 GTI. Its very nice, great shape, runs great. I had it out today and when i brought it in there was a good amount of water in the engine compartment. I know it is normal for some water to be in there but even my buddy who has owned waverunners all of his life couldnt figure out where its coming from or if the bilge pumps are working properly. Any ideas?? Thanks..

Install the drain plugs and then fill the inside hull with water and see where it comes out at. If no leaks are found then it's probably water from the engines cooling system hoses or exhaust pipe. Run it on the flush hose and look for leaks.

Back tied ski on trailor into water and start it, reach back behind tuned pipe where
the dimples are. They corrode & leak in compartment. Tig welding fixes it.

I have a 2000 GTI and I found that I was getting water into the hull through the plastic cable locks on the back of the ski. The cable locks are a plastic nut/bushing that screws into the hull and holds the stearing cable and reverse cable in position. The threads on both of my cable locks had broke allowing water to enter the hull where the the stearing cable and reverse cable pass throught the hull.

Thanks for the help guys i'm gonna check it out over the weekend while its in the water. I couldn't find any leaks with the hose hook up. Before i check it out, about how much water is normally supposed to be in there after a few hours of riding?

water in hull

did you ever figure out where the water was coming from?
i just bought a 97 sea doo xp and it had a ton of water in the hull and it kept spitting and sputtering and the front would nose dive, we barely made it back to the beach.... i took out the drain plugs and it had a lot of water in it.

Check the siphon system. The sucker boxes may be clogged. Look into the Ventury
between the steering nozzel and the impeller houseing for two siphon tubes. These
protrude into the thrust water and can fall out or break off, If this happens the siphon action is lost or very low. Bills86e

I hooked it up to the hose and cannot find a leak so i don't think its the cooling system. I'm going to check it in the water this weekend and i will keep you guys updated.

Lots of water in hull

I found that the protection hose covering the shaft as it enters the hull was cracked.Water didnt enter until I really gave it gas.And the crack was on the bottom of the hose. But now for the BIG mystery.I have replaced this hose 2 times in a month, after the original hose had a crack.I bought this 2000 GTI used last fall. The shaft looks straight and the motor mounts seem sound.Any ideas!??!

same problem

I had the same problem on a 97 xp. It was a pin hole in the water exhaust system that only appeared when it was running. A buddy who could weld aluminum fixed the problem I reinstalled and have had no problems.
