Wanna see my $1000.00 rock???

Beware of shallow water. Anyone make a 'rock shield' or something to stop sucking these things up.....besides smacking the driver in the head for drafting in shallow water.

Go ahead, flame away, I deserve it

Ouch, dont go above idle in shallow water. Did someone actually charge you 1,000 to fix it?

Well, not exactly. Since I had to replace the wear ring anyway, we changed the impeller to a Solas. Also bought a fuel baffle for the GTX Limited, and a battery. The total bill was a grand, about 600 was for the boat. The rock jammed in the impeller and ate the wear ring.

well your screen name says it all
only kidding

i have done the following on mine
opened the weed grates whilst on the trailer and used galvanized chicken wire mesh
put on and held with stainless wire twisted thru mesh and thru the weed grate
been on a while and aint come off yet
i live on th river and it is very shallow inplaces with bits of tree braches so i was not taking any chances

does this eliminate the risk of this occurring or just limit it?

Nothing ever elminates the possibility of sucking something up, except to leave the boat at home turned off. There is always a chance, but it really cuts down your chances. If you are in shallow water, keep it at idle.
