Well finally looking into doing some mild mods to my xp, as of right now it's completely stock besides a worx intake grate just installed and haven't tested yet, and some after market no name intakes/flame arrestors, my riding style is mostly ocean, jumping waves, but I do see glass often at the lake. So I don't really want to sacrifice top end, but would love some added low end. Got a deal on a factory pipe and a umi square style flame arrestor/intake for $200, also looking at a tdr water box for sure, I want allot more sound/noise, wich is not a problem where I ride, unless it's a bomb or gunshots cops don't care around here. I'm pretty sure I would have to rejet the carbs, I know on my banshee I didn't have to rejet when I added an exhaust, but the second I removed the lid on the intake box I did have to rejet and ended up buying k&n filters, as of right now my ski runs excellent with after market intakes, plugs come back cardboard brown everytime, and my buddy's stock 99 gsx limited with 951 has about .5-1 mph more top end then me, would be nice to beat him haha, also I'm looking into sponsons, trim tabs, r&d nozzle, and maybe a new factory seadoo prop or stock replacement, I don't want to drastically lose top end to gain low end and vise Versa. Also looking into umi steering setup.. What do you guys think?

Sounds like you already have everything in mind. You could add the MSD ignition, it's SUPPOSED to give you better bottom end. I have one, but haven't been able to test it yet. As for the prop, idk if I'd stick with factory seadoo one. I heard good things about the Soals X/O for top end, Skat Trak for more bottom end, but they also make the 17/23 (I think) for top speed. Also, you prob know this, but just making sure your prop and wear ring are in good shape can make a huge difference in performance.

This isn't really a performance mod, but I like seeing the cooling spout up front. It lets you make sure you're always cooling and avoids a potential catastrophe. It's a very cheap mod and doesn't take much time either. Just my $0.02

we were just discussing this on another site.

grab the pipe and arrestors for $200, that's a steal IMO

add ECWI, best bang for the buck IMO

never tried a tdr myself so I have no comment except that I personally own a very very noisy yamaha with free flow exhaust and the drone gets real old real fast.

yes, carb rejet will be in order.

hard to catch the GSX with an X4, (xo prop would help) without sacrificing low end , i'd rather just be faster than he is out of the hole and keep all races under 200 yds and you'll never worry :) a decent running stock GSX951 will top out around 62 ish, and although the X4 is capable of passing that, its not cheap to do so, but getting you to 59ish, and getting you there fast isn't that expensive, but those last 3-4mph don't come cheap past 59, again, XO helps and its not quite as bad on the low end as you might think, especially if your pushing the rest of the ski with some serious mods, it will yank your arms hard.

I liked the low end response of the swirl prop myself, but a good stocker would be my 2nd choice (others will chime in with opinions on what might be a better fit) but I also did the ECWI the same weekend as the swirl and the difference was night and day, huge improvement in midrange throttle.

i'm not a fan of sponsons, i like the controlled slide turn of stockers, but i'm a rec rider, not out running bouys. I've ridden both and i like spinouts and 360's (got pretty good at them) and with beach house, that's not happening, they grip hard, no sliding involved.

I never liked UMI, rode with and w/o on X4's and IMO they were a slight improvement, but not drastic, and I didn't like that if I was cruising at 45mph that there was no play in the bars, every little movement of the bars moved the ski, and I didn't like that, couldn't' relax when cruising. they are nice, and asthetically pleasing, but not worth the $$$ from my thoughts. (others disagree totally with me on this) A much cheaper option to UMI is stock stem, aftermarket bars, finger throttle and new start switch.

I believe I was running around 58.6 with the swirl, with great low end response, and about 2mph faster on top end with XO, it got there fast. I had Factory 1, proks, r&d nozzle, swirl, ECWI, hard jet box, all else was stock at least performance wise.

I can't stress ECWI enough, it really pulls hard, and will give you that extra 2-3mph over that last second when throttling up to a wave for a jump. maybe consider hard jetting the waterbox as well. downside to ECWI and hard jet is you gotta watch those jets, and check them often, since a clog will cause some issues, but I rode in sandy/salty conditions for maybe 18months with it, just checked them every 3 weeks or so, and never had an issue myself.

I have read on the ecwi, I'm interested in doing it but not just yet, with the sponsons and umi steering part, I would really like to carve water in the surf, I get so upset when the ski does a 180 when I don't want it to, the x4 hull has to be one of the most unstable skis I've ever been on, and feel like sponsons is a must, atleast worx has different settings from a little more aggressive then stock to rip your arms out...

Would you or anyone happen to know of a jetting guide? I'm in south Florida, sea level compression is high enough for me maybe I'd be interested in going a little higher but have to stick to 93, race fuel is way to expensive, lol so would like to see if I can do the mods I stated and just be able to jet my stock carbs, and what jets to run and tunning info

I've got worx grate and sponsons on my xp along with a xo 16.5/23.5. with the grate I lost about 2 mph off my top end but what I gained in rough water and turns was well worth it also killed the porposing. xo added nice hole shot and gave me back the 2 mph I lost with the grate.

the sponsons have 3 settings: 1 stock(ish), 2 rec, 3 rip your freaking arms off and send you over the bars. but I wouldn't ride without them again. really adds to the ride and on lowest setting (3) its like dropping an anchor off the rear in a turn.

yea i figured the worx website description of their intake grate was to good to be true, gain 3 mph in the chop and lose no top end, but damn loosing 2 mph in the glass is going to suck, my buddys seem to have an aggressive drag race competition, wich doesnt really bother me, but one of my buds is absolutely not aloud to be me, he has a 96 gsx 787 with a newer sbt engine, not to worried about him, but losing 2 mph is allot on these things, guess ill have to buy that prop for sure then, really need the grate for the ocean.

Funny I was talking to someone on how good his ski was in the chop
hahaha

I think I had a sola's on it.
Def a good intake for the chop!

the worx is great in the chop. 150% better than stock but it does scrub top speed. only thing that would be better would be running no grate.
