I'm new to the jet boat arena but have been around boats/waverunners so I'm not a total newb!

I am looking at a 2002 Utopia 205 with the optional 250hp Mercury motor. Any opinions on things to look for specific to this boat/motor? Any specific maintenance questions to ask? Can a family of 5 (3 little kids) with an occasional addition of 2 adults do okay in this as far as pulling a slalom skier, etc? Does $10,500 sound about right?

Thanks for helping with the basics!

Great boat!

For a family of 5(3kids), it is the perfect boat. It is roomy enough and there is enough power. Not real sure about the price. The engine is something you should make sure about. Check this forum, there are plenty of information about the motor. I was looking at a very similar boat when I first looked. Seems like the gist of it is to make sure that the compression is good and that there is a mechanic nearby that is familiar with this motor. Good luck!

:agree:

Like Sikiguya mentioned, make sure you get the boat checked out by certified Mercury mechanic. Sea-Doo can not work on the Mercurys. It's a great engine with lots of power, but just be sure you have somewhere near you that is familiar with it.

The Utopia 205 is a great family boat. Lots of room and storage. Mine is the 185, and I routinely have six on-board.
