Hi all

I'll keep this short and sweet till I decide what went wrong and if worth fixing. So I bought unit cheap off guy at had top end done at dealer , then when he got it back they took it out and ran 15 or so min and died on them. So he sent back to dealer and took apart and found damage to rotory valve with a tear in it and 2 wrist pins wedged in it. I will get pics and post it with what I found. Is there anyway the pins from a piston Bearing pin fall out and end up doing this damage? Crank seem to be good but cases are scared up on the faces, can they be fixed or are they toast. Can I find other cases and use my crank or should I always look for crank and cases that match. Thanks

It can happen if the dealer is worthless and didn't install the bearings, retainers and clips correctly.

If your crank is fine you can get a good set of used cases from minnetonka4me here on the forum. You will probably need a new rotary valve shaft too. When you get a new rotary valve do not use WSM as they are not correct.

The top and bottom cases have to be a factory matched set. You can't swap different tops and bottoms.

Ok thanks
Yes the rotory shaft brass gear is trash also, the prob we have here in Canada is most parts if you can find are expensive and can find lots in USA but then in US dollar and shipping is Krazy, lol
I will start looking and parts and post pics later.

So I got more info about this unit
The owner got his buddy to do a top end on it, must of had a busted wrist pin cage and never found all the pins and bammmmm wreck it because of it. This is what I found in engine and not from the new top end, try save a buck and look.

So my question is , would it be cheaper to find someone to rebuild my crank with new seals or just get the reman crank. Jus because the centre seals can not be changed ourself?

It is very very very hard to find a shop that can correctly rebuild a 2 cylinder 2 stroke crank correctly. THis is why I buy my cranks directly from seadoo.

Being in the great white north I would assume there are some very good performance sled shops that rebuild cranks so that is the one I would seek to do your crank. The crank kits are available from WSM.

I bought a 717 with the exact same damage as yours. I got new used cases, rebuilt crank, new rotary valve and shaft, all new bearings and seals and a new top end and it has been going strong for 5 years now.

When the brass gear gets badly damaged it typically bends the shaft so I just replace them since you will have to split the cases if it goes out again from being bent.

So I might of found a shop that was recommended by two guys that I know and works on skidoo two strokes. So my question is since he is further from a large city and don't know if he can or need to order parts I want to make sure what is all needed.

Well, if it was mine I would use all OEM parts but that isn't always within the budget of everyone.
I have been very happy with WSM parts for the last 25 years except for a few items that I will only recomend OEM and those are Fuel Valves, Rotary Valve and Carb Kits.

WSM.....
Crank Rebuild Kit #010-317
Complete Gasket Kit with seals #007-623
Rotary Valve Shaft #010-455K

Keep in mind that once you buy the crank parts and pay for the labor it might be cheaper to just buy a complete reman crank from seadoo.

Yes very true, I call dealer and can't get a reman for my 92 xp but for 98 gti is 781.00 less 200 core and I found a machine shop that does cranks and use to be a mechanic for yrs for skidoo then went out on his own, so I will be in his area at end of month so he said he will look at them and give some pricing. I also found a rebuilt crank for Xp online and is about 450 Canadian.
