Got a 1997 SPX with 787 motor.

I hooked battery up with main earth lead to earth and main power lead to positive but instead of puttin small earth from electrical box to earth i put it to positive.

I tried to start and nothing happened then heaps of smoke from the coil (it burnt out and split open) then i figured out what I had done!!

I put a new coil on but still wont go. Has no spark. Checked all the fuses (in both electrical boxes) and they are all ok. Should a fuse not have blown??

I think I mustve fried something else??

I checked front electrical box is there any way to test the electronics?? (MPEM)

Seriously pissed off at myself for doing something so stupid!!

Any help would be great.

REVERSING polarity or jumping from a running vehicle (over-amp) is a NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You need a new MPEM, or fix the MR2535L diode in your sealed electrical module.
Look in the HOW-TO section if you choose to do that. O.E.M. PARTS INC sells the
diode for $4 + shipping = Ph (719)635-0771.

The overage is A/C current, thats the Big deal! It happens So fast too. Like lightning
when it hits the power line close to your home. Its so fast it melts them ON, before
they can turn off! Sooooo..that lil diode blows.

Is there any way to test it to see if it's stuffed??
Would it likely have done damage to the whole board or just the diode??

Got an auto electrician mate 2 have a look at ski today and turns out the new coil is faulty as theres power geting to the coil. Tried a coil from a car there and sparked good.

Had to send coil back to shop now gota try get new one before xmas.

Glad the MPEM is not fried.

Hi there, i have had the same problem with my ski i get a long beep when lanyard is first connected then no power at all after that if i am lucky enough to get away with just the coil being damaged should i still be getting power an lights on the dash?? the coil got hot but never split. or will i have no power if i have fried that coil? or have i fried the mpem?

any help would be great thanks
