ok i bought my first pwc last month (1999 gsx rfi, with the 787 rfi engine). they guy said it needed a tuneup, it would run but not strong. so i stupidly bought it and took it to the marina for a tune up. they said 2200.00 to fix. front cylinder 150 psi rear 0.(thay only put shortblocks in, no rebuilds). so i took it to get tore down and was going to have them sent out and bored over. well around both fuel injectors someone welded or brazed around top of injector hole. Is this normal(there was a crack in the waterjacket above the injector opening.) on both. so now i cant even use them for a core replacement. then the one that was 0 psi has a crack in the sleeve like something was in the cylinder. is this normal? also the side that is 0 psi is full of sand. there is sand everywhere. so now what to do? if the welding around the injector is letting air in and leaning it out than if i redo the topend and resleeve one side than i am waisting my money. or is the weld ok and it just overheated because of the sand. the seadoo only has 78 hrs. on it. PLEASE HELP

Yeks...any chance of returning the seado to its old owner? It's gonna get expensive to replace. You might think about getting a re-manufactured engine...try this place" www.sbtontheweb.com " it will be much cheaper in the long run...

It sounds like you need to buy a short block and eat the cost or part it out and still eat the cost but by parting out you may come out cheaper over time because you will have to spend more money sooner than later. I am sory about your loss I wish that I had a beter answer but I do not.

the short blocks for $975 require an exchange and any "outside welding" is not allowed. is this normal for them to crack abouve the injector holes? this one is in both? wtf. and no i cant return it it was a private owner and the lawyer said nothing i can do.

I hope that you paid less than $1000.00 for it and I would do as karl said see if you can work something out with the seller. I would hope that he would be a honest person and may have not of known the severity of the problem and will work some thing out. If not tell him that you will post his name on line his full name and post it in as many places as possible like on this forrum and any time some one does a search for his name they will see he is not honest and that will one day cost him.

i paid 1700.00000+100 for the dealer to tell me i got screwed. The guy i bought it from said he took it in on trade for a new golf cart and never put it in the water. i was told it just need a tune up. my dumb A$$ didnt do a compression check. i did start up and run but it was running on only one cylinder. now i am in south carolina but i did talk to a guy who rebuils in michigan and said if this was a northern pwc and it wasnt winterized that they do hold water right above the fuel injectors (because of the tilt of the engine) and they are known to crack right there. if the weld is an ok fix and it just blew because of the sand (cooling tube on blown side is completely stopped up with sand) i can get the 1 side resleeved and bore the two to match and get the topend redone for 300.00 + 100.00 for the resleeve. but i hate to do that if the weld will let air in and lean it out. also the sleeve that is cracked looks like something from inside the cylinder broke it outword twords the water jacket. what could have done that and were did it go. i also dont know if the bottom end is damaged. my machanic said the cranks can get twisted when that sleeve got broke and will change the timing and lean out a cylinder also. is this true? so it looks like this is the second time this engine was damaged. first when it was welded and this time with the sand and blown cylinder.
