Tach calibration!!!!

Does anyone know how to calibrate the tachometers on a 98 sportster 1800????

my new tach i got to replace my old dead one doesn't read the correct rpm. I see there is a small dial on the back. Is that a way to calibrate it?

To my knowledge the tach's are a sealed unit and can't be calibrated.

yup... what he said. Did you cut open an OEM... or is it aftermarket?

yeah its aftermarket, there seems to be an adjustment on the back. not sure what it does. when i get my engine installed i'll try and calibrate it. let you know what i find.

If that aftermarket tach is anything like the one I bought for my truck that dial (switch) might be to adjust for different amounts of cyclinders (2,4,6,8) And that would effect the rpms on it.
