Tach add to 1997 XP

Hey all,
Added a tach from a 1996 GSX to my 1997 XP and it reads around 7K (should be 3k on hose?) RPM at idle. I have a 10K ohm resistor in line per info I obtained from this site.

Does it matter which yellow wire to the rectifier I tap?

It shouldnt matter I wonder if you have the resister backwards?

Resistors can be installed either way, Diodes only permit current one way.

Found a thread where someone specified the yellow and white wire. Rewired using YL/WH and all is well.
