hi
/i have a 98 sportster 1800 and we accidently sucked up a tow rope last night and it got wrapped around the shaft pretty good. was able to get it off pretty easily, but I noticed a small plastic blue piece broken where the seal is. I checked the other shaft and it has a cylindrical cover over the shaft. the engine in question does not. I'm not sure what the blue plastic piece is as I can't see it on the other engine, but part of it broke off. it appears to be a part that goes bewteen the shaft and the rubber seal. so, there is a possibility of some leakage there.
my question is, is it necessary to have it replaced? will water leak into the engine or hull?
the motor turns over fine now so I appear to have got all the rope off.
today is going to be the nicest day we've had in the last 2 weeks I've been on vacation so I'd rather be out on the water than in the shop... can anyone offer some guidance?
I can take a pic to help explain i didn't explain well enough
thanks in advance!
